Here are your updates for the week: 1.) Students moving on to the Regional Science Fair were given the schedule of events today. The project set-up is on Wednesday, Mar. 27th from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm. The actual fair will take place on Thursday, Mar. 28th beginning at 9:00 am. Students presenting at the fair must arrange their own transportation to the fair and do not come to school beforehand. If your student is moving on but did not bring the sheet home with them today, please let me know and I can send you a digital copy. 2.) Students who wished to be considered to move on to the regional French public speaking competition shared their speeches with us this afternoon! Three students will move on to represent BJHS at the competition, they will be notified tomorrow morning. The competition will be held at Liverpool Regional High School on Wednesday, Mar. 27th beginning at 6:30 pm. Students who did not present their French speech today will be presenting in class on Wednesday, Mar. 27th. 3.) There will be no school for students on Monday, April 1st as it is a marking and preparation day for teachers. 4.) The next CLT day will be taking place on Wednesday, April 10th. I believe that's all for now! Have a great week! Mlle Hillier Good afternoon and happy March Break!
I was originally hoping to have all speeches finished and ready to present on Monday, March 25th but I don't believe that's going to be possible after checking with students today. However, the regional competition will be taking place regardless on Wednesday, March 27th so any students who wish to be considered to move on to the regional competition must come ready to present their speeches on Monday, March 25th as names will have to be forwarded that day. For students who do not wish to be considered to move on, speeches will be due later that week (a date to be determined upon return from March break). The regional competition was moved up by almost two weeks as compared to previous years and as such has created more of a time crunch for us. Students who will be moving on to the regional science fair on Thursday, March 28th at the LCLC will receive more information about set-up time, time the event, etc. upon returning from March Break. Have a fantastic break! Mlle Hillier Good afternoon! Here are your updates for the week: 1.) We got through a number of science fair presentations today and will finish the presentations up tomorrow morning! We have seen a lot of interesting and thought provoking projects and have had great discussions related to questions about their projects. Students are welcome to make changes to their projects as they see fit between now and the actual fair on Wednesday as well as practice their presentations. The fair itself will start around 8:45 am, students do not need to come to school early. The public viewing time for the science far will be between 11:50 am and 12:20 pm. The presentation of awards to those who will be moving on to the regional science fair will take place immediately following. 2.) Wednesday, Mar. 13th is also a CLT day. Students will be dismissed at 1:05 pm. If you plan to attend the public viewing of the science fair and would like to take your student with you after the presentation of awards (as it will basically take us to the end of the day), you will need to sign them out through the office. 3.) We will be working hard to finish up our French speeches in class this week! I conferenced with each student individually last week and helped them plan out their next steps for their writing. We will be presenting French speeches in class on Monday, March 25th (upon returning from March break). 4.) Next week, March 18-22, is March Break. 5.) Students will be going snowshoeing in gym class this Thursday, Mar. 14th. Mrs. Muir has asked that students come prepared with a winter jacket, snow pants (or dry pants to change into), boots, hats, and mittens. 6.) Students do not have dictée or word work this week. Have a great week and a fantastic March Break! Mlle Hillier Good afternoon!
Here are your updates for the week: 1.) We are in the home stretch of science fair now! Today we reviewed all of the components that need to go into the report as well as how to compile sources and put them into a bibliography. Students received paper copies of this information today but it is posted on Showbie as well. The in-class presentations of projects will be taking place next Monday, Mar. 11th. Students need to come prepared on that date to present their projects in their entirety (exactly the same as they will in the real fair). The fair itself will take place on Wednesday, Mar. 13th at BJHS. Information on when members of the public will be able to drop by and view the projects will be coming out in the very near future. Extra help was available today after school and is available Thursday (Hillier) and Friday (Comstock) from 2:35 pm - 3:30 pm as well. If your child feels that he/she is in need of extra help with his/her project, please ask them to let me know as soon as possible. 2.) Wednesday, March 13th is a CLT day. As such, students will be dismissed at 1:05 pm. 3.) As you are likely already aware, March break is a week later than usual this year! The break will take place from Mar. 18-22 (inclusive). Students will return to school on Monday, Mar. 25. 4.) We are working diligently on French speeches this week! Each student will be conferencing with me individually to ensure he/she is on the right track with his/her speech. We will continue to work hard over the course of this week and next as speeches will need to be finished before March break. We will be presenting speeches in class on Monday, Mar. 25th. The regional competition will be taking place in Liverpool on Wednesday, Mar. 27th. We have the opportunity to send 3 students from our class to represent BJHS! Have a great week! Mlle Hillier Good afternoon!
Here are your updates for the week: 1.) Now that we are finally done with our English speeches, we will begin work on our French speeches tomorrow! The regional competition is set for March 27th so we will be presenting immediately upon returning from March break. I will be reviewing topics with students tomorrow and we will begin the brainstorm process. 2.) This week we will be working on how to organize our display boards, organizing our research/results, and how to create a bibliography. The things we discuss and/or write down will be posted on Showbie for students to have access to at home. Extra help was available today and is available on Thursday as well (or by making special arrangements). 3.) This Wednesday, Feb. 27 is a CLT day. As such, students will be dismissed at 1:05pm. 4.) We have begun our unit on angles and triangles in math as of today! If your student has a protractor at home that he/she was waiting to bring in until we started the unit, it would be great if they could bring it with them tomorrow. Have a great week! Mlle Hillier Good afternoon!
Here are your updates for the week: 1.) We are going to be presenting our English speeches in class on Wednesday or Thursday of this week (depending on how prepared we feel after practicing tomorrow). Students should be practicing at home if at all possible. The students chosen to represent the class at the BJHS speech festival will be presenting on the morning of Monday, Feb. 25. 2.) Quick on the heels of English speeches, we're going to be choosing topics for our French speeches this week and we will begin writing them in class. You will see another proposal sheet come home with students tomorrow. 3.) Science fair projects should be starting to take really take shape this week! As per our due date organizer, students should be wrapping up their research and starting to think about how they want to set up their experiment and/or model (depending on the type of project they are doing). Extra help was available today after school and will be available on Thursday as well from 2:35 pm - 3:30 pm. Students should continue to bring their science fair information back and forth to school each day so that they have things to work on during work time. 4.) The next CLT day is Wednesday, Feb. 27. I know that we have a lot of things on the go at school and can also appreciate that it's a busy time outside of school at well. If your child feels that he/she needs some extra help or one-on-one time to help complete a certain project or task, please encourage them to talk to me about it so we can find a time that works. As I've mentioned to them on numerous occasions, waiting until the last minute will cause a lot of unnecessary stress (and that's the last thing we want)! Have a great week! Mlle Hillier Good morning!
Here are your updates for the week: 1.) As science fair has likely been a topic of great discussion in your household over the last week, let's start there! The BJHS science fair will be held on Wednesday, March 13th. Students will be presenting their projects to judges, parents/guardians, fellow students, and members of the general public. We will be doing a significant amount of work in class to help prepare students to do their actual project at home. Each day this week we will be spending time on aspects of the project that are important to complete before the actual project or experiment itself. Today, for example, we will be discussing what a hypothesis is and how to properly write a hypothesis. All information discussed in class will be given to students both on paper in posted on Showbie for students to access at home as well. The information that the students received in the packet last week will be reviewed in great detail as we progress. If students are working on aspects of their projects at home, they should make a folder so that they can bring their work back and forth with them so as to make the best possible use of class time given to them. The due date organizer (also included in the package) gives students a suggested timeline for when they should aim to have certain aspects of their project completed. There is also a calendar and schedule of when extra help is available after school leading up to the due date. As mentioned to students, I am more than willing to make myself available above and beyond that schedule should they require assistance or materials on a date that is not on the calendar. I do ask that they arrange this with me (and also with you) prior to the day they would like help. I know that science fair can cause quite a bit of stress for students (and families as well), but I am hopeful that the steps outlined above will help alleviate some of this stress. Completing a project of this nature helps students learn many valuable skills related to the process of scientific inquiry, completing research, time management, public speaking, the list goes on. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. 2.) This week we will be finishing up English speeches in class, presentations will take place next week. If your student is still working on writing the body of his/her speech, he/she will likely be bringing it home at some point to try to work on a specific portion of it. Speeches will need to be finished by the end of the week so that we can dedicate some time to practice at the beginning of next week before presentations begin. 3.) This week is Winter Carnival at BJHS! Each day has a specific theme: Monday - Emoji/Meme day Tuesday - Pyjama day Wednesday - Twin day Thursday - Superhero day Friday - Flannel Friday Have a great week! Mlle Hillier Good afternoon!
Here are your updates for the week: 1.) Wednesday, Feb. 6th, is a CLT day. As such, students will be dismissed at 1:05 pm. 2.) Information regarding science fair will be coming home with students tomorrow - stay tuned! Students will be given time in class to work on their projects and extra help will be available 2-3 days a week after school leading up to the fair. Students will be encouraged to make good use of this time so that they have less to do at home. A calendar will be coming home with the rest of the information and regular updates will be given between now and the science fair. Have a great week! Mlle Hillier |
